A Sunhat for Sophie

I finished this little Crochet sun hat for my little poppet Sophie in no time at all. It was a really quick easy pattern that you can find for free here

It is a lovely hat that could be made in any colour with any detail. I just threaded some wool through the hat and sewed on a little crocheted bow in the same colour. I made it in cotton as the pattern suggests, which made it light enough to protect sensitive baby heads from the summer sun, without it making your baby too hot.

The Cutest Baby Sun Hats

On the 11th of the 11th I gave birth to our first child. A beautiful baby girl. Now summer is here I want me and her to spend every minute possible out in the fresh air, on lush daisy-sprawled lawns, with friends and toys and ice-cream (for me!). So, of course, I need to keep her delicate skin protected from the sun. Most importantly I want to protect her head, so (any excuse) I browsed pinterest for inspiration and spotted a few cute little designs that I couldn't resist...

I LOVE this pattern. It is really easy to do, took me less than a day (quite an achievement with a six month old), and looks really very cute - the perfect timeless sun hat for a boy or a girl.

Pictures and pattern are thanks to Yolanda Soto-Lopez of All Crafts Channel

Here you can see my own version of this sunny little number.

2. The crocheted turban.

From here.

I haven't tried this yet but can't wait to have a go for my little munchkin. Think she will look adorable in this.

Out of this world

I've wanted to crochet some naughty little monsters to put on my stall for quite a while.

My husband helped me to design these little fellas. He loves the mathamatical side of my crocheting hobby.

It is kind of an amigurumi egg and a crocheted flower crocheted together as one shape. I crocheted a straight forward circle and dot for an eye on each monster.

Here are the end results...

Popcorn Stitch Around A Blanket

I'm having a lot of fun putting that bobbly popcorn stitch around my ongoing blanket. I wanted to give the blanket a bit of texture. With baby number one on the way (due in December) I thought it would be sweet to add these bobbly bits around the outside to add cosy tactility for tiny fingers. I'm hoping to do at least two rows of this in a zigzagging alternating pattern. It takes  a while but is lovely and therapeutic once you get into the rhythm of it. Here are some pictures of one side of one row done, to give you the general idea of how it looks...

Baby headbands

Since photographing gorgeous baby Eva in a couple of my crocheted headbands I'm feeling inspired to have a go at designing more hair accessories for baby girls. I mean! Look at how adorable she looks...

I am going to make a load of baby-sized ones in different styles and colours because I'm feeling inspired by her big bright eyes and her cute little cheeks. She just looks so cute! I'll let you see how I get on.

Here are a few others headbands that were photographed in the Park.

Spring is in the (h) air

I have been really busy today creating lots of pretty little hair-slides to sell at Oldfield Park Infant School's first ever Easter Craft Fair. The fair is taking place on the 13th April from 10am until 12 noon. To go to the school's website for directions to the school click here.

Blue bunnies for a baby boy

A few months ago I was commissioned to make a baby present for a little boy (who has not yet been born but is due to be born at the end of March).

Facts I had for the growing family

1) they are expecting a boy 2) baby is due in Spring time 3) baby's bedding for his cot is already purchased; patterned with little blue rabbits 4) mum-to-be owns a real life house bunny of her own.

So naturally I set about planning a bunny themed gift.

Here it is, freshly finished and photographed this morning.

I have been careful to make sure that there are no buttons that could be pulled off by tiny fingers or accidentally swallowed by tiny mouths.

Tomorrow I will send it hopping off via Royal Mail from Bath to Newcastle. I hope baby will be pleased with it when he arrives into the world any time now.

I am itching to try some more little critters. I think cute, little giraffes might be on the agenda! So watch this space...

Pricing

The five rabbits alone took over an hour each to crochet, assemble and decorate, so I would sell this kind of specially commissioned mobile for £45. If you would like one - or if you'd like a smaller one for a smaller price - get in touch via the 'contact me' page of my website - click here to go there now.

If you would like to use these pictures for anything you are really welcome to, but please do link back to my blog/website and mention me. Thank you kindly.

Crocheting a small "blankie"

A friend of mine gave me an idea to crochet a simple square and attach a little amigurumi animal to one corner as a really lovely hand-made baby gift.

Here it is, a work in progress.

The square is trebble-crocheted in white cotton and the pink border is a simple scallop stitch running all of the way round in a pink cotton.

I chose to use cotton instead of wool because I wanted it to be really neat (and I thought wool is slightly less suck-proof for a baby) and I ironed it to add to that crisp look.

I'm still undecided on which little animal to crochet in the corner. Will post a pic when it's finished.

Baby mobile inspiration

I have decided to make a baby mobile for a customer who has a budget of around £40. I have been pinning together a moodboard on my pinterest page. Below you can see a few of the pictures that have caught my eye. These are so cute and exquisitely crocheted. I particularly love the weather ideas.
